Do devices such as phones and laptops overheat? Follow these important safety tips

The heat has increased suddenly in Terai and other parts of the country. In this case, the refrigerator, fan and AC run continuously. And when the temperature is high, it is necessary to charge devices such as smartphones and laptops. But due to excessive heat, electrical devices may be damaged.

What causes the device to overheat?

Most of the electrical appliances, apart from their main function, also emit heat. If the temperature around the device is high, then the device will overheat. This has a negative impact on the performance of the device. In a general sense, running any device continuously for a long time in extremely hot weather leads to overheating. It can also cause the device to catch fire.

This is why airline companies do not allow you to carry electrical items including power banks during the flight. Perhaps you have also felt that your smartphone, laptop, etc. device heats up more in the afternoon than in the morning. Some of the causes of device overheating are discussed further below:

Inadequate ventilation: Devices like laptops, TVs are designed to pack heat. That is, they have a venting system. When those vents get blocked for some reason, the airflow is affected. As a result, the device overheats.

Continuous use: Even with continuous use, the device overheats. Also, if there are devices that require more processing like gaming, video editing, there is a higher chance of overheating. Because the device does not get time to cool down.

High ambient temperature: As mentioned above, the temperature around the device also affects the overheating of the device. If there is a high temperature near any device, it is difficult to cool it. Whether the device is exposed to direct sunlight or nearby devices that generate high heat, all of these can cause overheating.

Dust: Sometimes dust affects the cooling system of the device. As a result, the device heats up when the cooling system does not work properly. This effect can be seen especially in AC, laptop.

How to protect the device from overheating?

– If you think your device is overheating, it may be advisable to stop it for a while. For this, unplug it from the power source. And until the device is completely wiped, do not operate the device until then.

– The common way to protect a smartphone or laptop from overheating is to reduce unnecessary applications and brightness. If this device is overheated, you can put it in airplane mode and leave it for a while.

-Another way to prevent overheating is to keep the device away from direct sunlight. In case of smartphone, you can remove the cover of the mobile and in case of laptop, you can use cooling fan.

What to do if the device catches fire?

Sometimes accidents can happen even if you take precautions. If a fire occurs due to overheating, do the following:

-Usually electrical appliances smell burning before they catch fire. If you notice such a smell, first of all you have to unplug the device. In case of fire, you should first turn off the power supply of the device to be safe.

-If the fire is small and extinguishable, use a fire extinguisher. Remember, do not use water. Because it can cause more damage.

-If the fire gets out of control, call the fire department immediately. Go to a safe place without delay.

-Do not reuse devices that have been damaged by fire. Even if it looks safe, there is a possibility of further damage.
