Tiktok said on Tuesday it had taken steps to prevent cyber attacks targeting high-profile accounts, including CNN.
“Our security team was recently alerted to malicious actors targeting CNN’s TikTok account,” TikTok spokesperson Jason Gross said in a prepared statement. Gross said TikTok was working with CNN to restore access to the account and add “enhanced security measures” to protect it, according to news agency AP.
“We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the platform and will continue to monitor for any further unauthentic activity,” Gross added.
The social media company said the attack took place through the platform’s direct messaging feature, without sharing further details about the nature of the hack.
According to Gross, TikTok is still investigating “potential exploits” and working with affected account owners who need to restore their access. Gross did not share the number of accounts targeted, but only said “a very small number of accounts were compromised.”
TikTok did not name the other affected accounts, but said socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton’s account was targeted but not compromised.
